Job Description
LOCATION: Remote
The Vent Sales Support Specialist (VSSS) serves as a trusted clinical partner to Children’s Hospitals, Pediatric Pulmonology teams, and Home Medical Equipment (HME) providers, with a primary mission of building long-term brand loyalty through clinical excellence, education, and responsiveness.
This role requires deep expertise in both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation across pediatric and adolescent populations. The HMV Clinical Specialist provides hands-on clinical guidance, product expertise, and care-pathway support that instills confidence in physicians, respiratory therapists, nurses, and discharge planners managing complex home-ventilated patients.
By combining strong bedside credibility with a relationship-driven mindset, this role directly influences therapy adoption, continuity of care, and long-term customer preference
QUALIFICATIONS
- Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required
- Active state licensure (multi-state preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Pediatric respiratory care, PICU/NICU, or pediatric home ventilation
- Demonstrated experience managing:
- Invasive and non-invasive ventilated patients
- Pediatric and complex chronic care populations
- Strong clinical judgment with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently with physicians and senior clinicians.
Preferred Education
- RRT, NPS, or advanced pediatric credentials
- Working directly with Children’s Hospitals, Home Medical Equipment providers, and Home mechanical ventilation programs.
- Experience in Clinical specialist, educator, or field-based support role.
- Experience in Medical device or respiratory equipment industry
- Excellent attention to detail and project management skills.
- Excellent written/oral communication skills required. Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
Physical Demands
- Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.
- Typically, employees sit comfortably to do their work, interspersed by brief periods of standing, walking, bending, carrying papers and books, and extensive periods requiring the use of computer terminals to accomplish work objectives.
- Required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard.
- Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department or line of business.
Working Conditions
- Predominantly operates in an office/ hospital environment. Some work (less than 5%) requires moving and lifting of medical devices.
- Up to 60-80% travel, primarily to Children’s Hospitals, Facility care providers, and HME partners within the assigned territory/accounts.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Each Employee consistently demonstrates the following essential functions:
- Serve as a subject matter expert in pediatric home mechanical ventilation, including:
- Invasive ventilation (tracheostomy)
- Non-invasive ventilation (mask-based ventilation, mouthpiece ventilation)
- Support clinical teams with:
- Initial patient setup and transition from hospital to home
- Ventilator mode selection, alarm management, and circuit configuration
- Troubleshooting complex ventilation challenges in home settings
- Provide clinical guidance consistent with physician orders, hospital protocols, and evidence-based practices.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with targeted:
- Pulmonologists
- Respiratory therapists – Hospital and HME
- NICU/PICU staff
- Case management and discharge planning teams
- HME clinical and operational leadership
- Act as a trusted extension of the care team, reinforcing confidence in therapy decisions and equipment selection.
- Support continuity of care between Hospitals and HME providers during patient discharge and ongoing management.
- Deliver high-impact clinical education programs, including:
- In-services for physicians, RTs, nurses, and HME clinicians
- Product training, clinical best practices, and workflow optimization
- Position the company’s ventilation solutions as clinically reliable, intuitive, and responsive to patient care needs.
- Serve as a visible clinical ambassador who strengthens brand reputation through competence, accessibility, and follow-through.
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Clinical Leadership to support:
- Growing share in key ventilation accounts and referral sources
- New account adoption support – Direction from manager and AVP
- Product evaluations and clinical trials
- Therapy expansion within existing hospital and HME accounts
- Provide clinical insight to inform product development, training content, and customer feedback loops.
- Support key accounts during escalations, complex patient scenarios, and competitive conversions.
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory, legal, and ethical standards, including:
- FDA regulations
- HIPAA
- Hospital and HME policies
- Accurately document training, clinical interactions, and field activity as required.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings.
- Attends seminars and training sessions necessary to maintain appropriate level of professional competence.
- Ensures all department compliance guidelines are met.
- Follow evidence base standards of medical care through adherence to existing policies and procedures.
- Attends all meetings, in-services training, or continuing education as delegated by the supervisor.
- Provides customer focused interactions.
- Performs all duties necessary for the department as per department policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as delegated by the supervisor within the scope of practice and the responsibilities in the department.
