We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Lead with deep expertise in PostgreSQL and AlloyDB Omni, with a strong focus on enterprise-scale deployment, administration, and optimization.
Join our Data Modernization and Enterprise Data Platforms practice and take the lead in designing, implementing, and managing mission‑critical database infrastructures across Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon Redshift, AlloyDB, and PostgreSQL. You will collaborate closely with data engineers, architects, developers, and business stakeholders to ensure our database platforms are secure, highly available, scalable, and optimized for performance.
A consultative database engineering leader with deep hands‑on expertise across major relational and cloud database platforms that brings architectural judgment, operational rigor, and a passion for building robust data ecosystems that power enterprise applications and analytics.
You work on high‑impact, cross‑functional projects with opportunities to explore new technologies as our fast‑paced environment continues to evolve. You are versatile, exhibit strong leadership q Strong understanding of database architecture, high availability, and disaster recovery technologies such as Oracle Data Guard, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, PostgreSQL Logical/Streaming Replication, Redshift snapshot strategies, and AlloyDB high‑availability configurations.
Lead and execute end-to-end enterprise database migrations, with a strong preference for experience migrating PostgreSQL to AlloyDB.
Provide hands-on expertise in managing and optimizing environments involved:
o OpenShift StorageClass configuration and management
o High Availability (HA) architecture and Failover mechanisms
o Resource planning, including RAM and Namespace configuration
o ResourceQuotas and Guaranteed QoS enforcement
o Backup and Point In Time Recovery (PITR) strategy implementation
o Connectivity and Load Balancing setup
o Patching and version Upgrades across environments
Design & Architecture:
• Architect and implement robust database solutions across Oracle, SQL Server, Redshift, AlloyDB, and PostgreSQL.
• Ensure high availability, scalability, disaster recovery, and performance alignment with enterprise standards.
• Develop and evaluate database architecture artifacts, capacity plans, and modernization blueprints.
Technical Leadership:
• Provide technical guidance for large‑scale data and application modernization projects.
• Mentor junior DBAs and act as a key escalation point for complex database challenges.
• Advocate best practices for data integrity, performance, monitoring, automation, and cloud adoption.
Database Operations:
• Oversee installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
• Lead performance tuning initiatives and optimize SQL, indexes, storage, and compute layers.
• Implement and manage enterprise‑class backup/recovery, replication, and DR strategies.
Customer & Stakeholder Collaboration:
• Work with stakeholders to understand application and analytics requirements.
• Translate business needs into scalable database solutions and operational models.
• Present technical findings to leadership and cross‑functional teams.
Documentation:
• Develop and maintain operational guides, runbooks, architecture diagrams, and standards.
Risk Management:
• Identify, communicate, and mitigate risks related to availability, performance, data integrity, or compliance.
• Ensure proactive monitoring, root‑cause analysis, and long‑term remediation planning.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with 10+ years of experience managing and supporting large-scale database environments.
• Extensive hands-on experience administering Oracle, SQL Server, Redshift, AlloyDB, and PostgreSQL across on-premises and cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP.
• Deep expertise in backup and recovery technologies, including RMAN, SQL Server native backup tools, pgBackRest, and cloud-based backup frameworks.
• Strong understanding of database architecture, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions such as Oracle Data Guard, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, PostgreSQL Logical/Streaming Replication, Redshift snapshot strategies, and AlloyDB high availability configurations.
• Proven experience in performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, memory configuration, and workload analysis.
• Solid knowledge of data warehousing concepts, OLAP design, partitioning, and columnar storage technologies (e.g., Redshift).
• Hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines for database changes using tools such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, AWS CodeBuild, or Jenkins.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using SQL, Python, Shell/Bash, and PowerShell.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus/Grafana, Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQL Server DMVs, and Datadog.
• Strong background in security and compliance, including encryption, auditing, access control, vulnerability remediation, and frameworks such as SOC 2, HIPAA, and PCI.
• Experience with automation and modern DevOps practices, including Terraform, Ansible, Infrastructure as Code, development containers, unit testing, and code quality review.
• Exceptional troubleshooting, collaboration, stakeholder communication, and problem-solving skills.
Additional Preferred Experience
Candidates with strong proficiency in at least two of the following major database platforms are highly preferred:
• Oracle
• SQL Server
• Snowflake
• Amazon Redshift
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Austin, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $128000.00 - $192000.00/yr.
We reserve the right to pay above or below the posted wage based on factors unrelated to sex, race, or any other protected classification.
