Role Description

The Fire Protection Engineer serves as the subject matter expert for fire and life safety systems, providing technical leadership in the design, review, inspection, testing, and compliance of fire protection systems. The role ensures adherence to applicable codes and standards while supporting facility leadership and project teams.

  • Design and evaluate fire protection systems including fire alarm, fire detection, sprinkler, suppression, and fire pump systems.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations, system layouts, and equipment selection.
  • Review architectural/engineering drawings and contractor shop drawings for compliance with model codes, local codes, and NFPA standards.
  • Conduct field surveys, system inspections, acceptance testing, and fire hazard analyses.
  • Develop and update life safety plans and fire safety programs.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation related to fire protection evaluations, code compliance, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Provide technical consultation to architects, contractors, facilities leadership, and regulatory authorities.
  • Research codes and standards to support compliance strategies and alternate methods of design.
  • Perform hazardous materials assessments and evaluate fire resistance of building materials and structures.
  • Develop performance-based fire protection designs using fire modeling and egress analysis tools.
  • Develop and deliver fire protection training materials and sessions.
  • Support procurement, installation, modification, and maintenance oversight of fire protection systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, or related discipline).
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of fire alarm and fire suppression system experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hospital or healthcare life safety code experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.

Job Requirements
