Tax Accountant (Remote)

Ensemble Performing Arts · Remote · Full-Time

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 annually

About the Role

We are looking for an attentive and detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for federal and state income tax compliance, sales and use tax filings and foreign tax filings (VAT/GST). Experience with balance sheet reconciliations including the calculation of deferred tax assets/liabilities is required. You will be proficient in Avalara and NetSuite. This role will work closely with our external auditors to assist with income tax filings for partnership and C-Corp entities.

This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a high-accountability, fast-moving environment and is excited to build and refine compliance processes that support a growing organization.

What You'll Do

Sales & Use Tax

• Compile and analyze revenue and sales tax data from business locations across the country
• Submit monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax data for filing through AvaTax software
• Reconcile sales tax and use tax payable accounts on the balance sheet on a monthly basis
• Administer and maintain the Avalara platform, ensuring accurate tax calculations and filing outputs
• Manage state and local sales tax registrations, including new registrations and ongoing account maintenance

Income Tax Compliance

• Provide financial information to external auditors for proper filing of Forms 1065 and 1120 for all entities
• Track and maintain federal and state income tax correspondence, including payments for extensions and other taxes due
• Compute and reconcile deferred tax accounts for our C-Corp entity and taxes payable for all partnership entities
• Primary liaison with the external auditors for all tax requests

Other Tax Compliance

• Compile and file required foreign tax reports, including but not limited to VAT and GST
• Reconcile balance sheets associated with foreign tax accounts
• Manage the organization and timely submission of business personal property tax filings across all locations

Operations & Process Improvement

• Assist in developing and refining systems and processes to support compliance as the company grows
• Provide ongoing back-office support to businesses across the portfolio as needed
• Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy across tax and compliance workflows

What We're Looking For

• Business degree in Accounting or Tax with 3-5 years experience
• Must be proficient with balance sheet reconciliations
• Experience registering, filing, and managing accounts for state and local sales tax and business personal property tax
• Strong time-management, prioritization, and multitasking skills — you're comfortable managing many concurrent deadlines
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a low tolerance for errors in compliance data
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• A positive, resourceful attitude and good judgment when navigating ambiguous situations
• Thrives in and drives change in a growth environment — comfortable building processes where few exist
• Works well as part of a team and collaborates effectively across departments
• Working knowledge of UK VAT, Canadian GST & HST, or other international tax is a plus

Benefits & Perks

We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, including:
• Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance
• Life and AD&D coverage
• Supplementary/Voluntary benefit plans
• Paid Time Off (PTO)
• 401(k) with employer match

Join a supportive, mission-driven arts organization with significant opportunity for professional growth as Ensemble scales.
